Privacy and Confidentiality Explained

Your Privacy Matters

Feeling safe is the foundation of good therapy. What you share with me in session stays private. By law, everything we discuss is confidential and cannot be shared without your written permission.

There are a few rare situations where I’m legally required to break confidentiality in order to keep you or others safe:

  • If I suspect abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult, I must report it.

  • If you make a serious threat to harm someone, I am required to take steps to protect that person.

  • If you are in danger of seriously harming yourself, I’ll do everything I can to support you. If necessary, I may take steps to ensure your safety, even without your permission, as allowed by law.

A Quick Note About Communication

Text and email aren’t fully secure for discussing personal or clinical matters. I use them only for simple things like scheduling or appointment reminders. Anything personal or therapeutic is always best discussed in session or through a secure platform.

If you ever have questions about your privacy or how I handle your information, please feel free to ask. Your trust means everything to me.
